What does it mean to have a ‘destiny’ as a business owner?
Destiny is the path a business owner creates for themselves based on their vision for their business. It is the reason a particular business came into being – to solve a problem or have an impact on the community.
Having a ‘destiny’ as a business owner is a point when they are clear on the needs they serve in the market for their customer and have a vision for the provision of a solution that meets the customer’s needs.
- Who is in charge of making sure that a business fulfills its destiny?
The whole value chain of the solution delivery to the customer fulfills the business destiny but the business owner is ultimately responsible to ensure that their vision is achieved fully. The business owner, their workers, and the supply chain are in charge of making sure that the business fulfills the needs they have identified in the market or in society.
The business owner will be required to use marketing and communications techniques to create awareness for their target client. The client’s acceptance of the problem exists, recognition of the availability of a solution, and their willingness to pay for it, is the other part of the business, to ensure that the “destiny” is achieved.

A business owner first begins by identifying the problem they want to solve in the community or market and creating a solution for it. Their destiny is then defined by how they will solve this problem and their vision of how they will impact change in the community or market with their solution.
- How can a business owner ‘take charge of their destiny, especially in adverse times?
A business owner can ‘take charge’ of their destiny by having clarity on the problem they are solving by frequently monitoring to checking any shifts in the market needs or the problem being solved, and by being flexible so as to align with the market needs as they shift, secondly having focused, clear and consistent communication about their solution, and thirdly have confidence and belief in their product or service because if they do not believe in the solution they are providing no one else will.
